@Lucy, I thought you were one of the developers. :P Anyways, tell the technical staff that Bookaxe could do with a private message system, for members to interact with each other, kind of like how most social networks have. It would give the site a more 'community-like' vibe.
Hi @Lucian. Thanks for you feedback. It' something we're already considering. I'll pass your comments on.
Hi Lucy! I really want bookaxe to succeed- you know I've been here from almost the beginning :). I've been thinking that it might help to have a professional UX designer look at the site. Check this: https://youtu.be/S6-q5BheEYU . Honestly, this is just an example and I know nothing of design (and it must be d*mned hard) but it got me thinking about bookaxe.
Missed your upload Sunday but I'm sure you are busy!
Hi Mark, our new BookTube video is up now. We've moved to Tuesdays. Good to know you are looking out for us, though! We appreciate your support and encouragement on all things Bookaxe very much, thank you!
I’m just wondering: is there a way to add books that don’t show up in the search results to the shelves/TBR?
Hi @Ra. I'm sorry you can't find what you're after. We use Google Books as our main book database which has 150 million titles in their list, so most books should be in there, although the ones that aren't usually turn out to be self-published or from very small presses and I'm afraid there is nothing we can do about this. I do appreciate that sometimes books don't always appear quite where they should be, however. Have you tried searching by author's name as well as the book's title, and also double checking the spelling? If you're still stuck, drop us an email at email@example.com with the book you can't find and we'll investigate for you!
Thanks for getting back to me @Lucy! The books I’ve been unable to find are translations that probably fall under “small (or at least, obscure) presses”. No big deal; I was mostly wondering if I‘d missed some feature to manually add books!
Hi @Ra. Thanks for understanding and sorry about that. Google is the biggest database of books available, which is why we use it, but publishers are responsible for adding their own books and the little ones sometimes don't do this (or don't know they have to) unfortunately.
@Lucy No problem at all! I do appreciate you explaining things. ^_^
Hey Lucy, I agree with Ra, I occasionally have trouble finding books here, too. Plus google treats each edition as a separate entry and that sometimes crowds out additional hits. I know goodreads is a sorta competitor to you guys, but they have an API and that might be helpful for searching. Also, I was wondering why you don't have amazon links. Your vendor links are for physical and I don't do physical. Hm, actually, in browsing all of your affiliate links, I see that Hive has ebooks listed, but still, amazon is so much easier with my Kindle.
