Hi Guys, I’m kinda new to reading. I am Dyslexic and always found it difficult to read full books because it takes me so long. Recently I sat down one evening and read a book cover to cover. I was shocked and pretty proud of myself.

Anyway, that was two months ago and I have read a book a week ever since.

The problem is, I don’t know what to read. So far I have read novels from nearly every genre but I can’t choose what to read next.

Could I please get some recommendations.

Hey Becca. Welcome to Bookaxe... and to books! I think you're right to be proud of yourself. That's a brilliant achievement. Of the books you've read so far, did you have any favourites? That might help us steer you towards some great reads. Another way to find something you'll love is to have a look at the bookcases of readers on Bookaxe who's tastes have been closely matched to your own. You can then see what they have shelved highly and you might be inspired!

From your bookcase, I can see you've tried lots of different things. It looks like you've enjoyed the fantasy books so perhaps have a look at Leigh Bardugo's novels (she has lots!) which are really exciting, really accessible and also really popular, so you would have plenty of people to chat to about them if you wanted. Sarah J Maas and Cassandra Clare also really popular in YA fantasy.

Since you're from Ireland too, if you wanted to support a really great Irish YA author, have a look at Louise O Neill's books.

In terms of crime/thriller recommendations, you might like to try Lee Child's Jack Reacher series. There are dozens of books, so if you like them, you'll have loads to work your way through. You might also like Agatha Christie's novels, which are real timeless detective stories, where you can fall in love with the same characters over multiple books.

I hope you find something you love! Please do let us know :)

That’s all sounds fantastic, thank you Lucy. I will definitely take a look at your suggestions, I’m excited already.

I am currently reading To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf and I’m really enjoying it. Do you know of any books similar to that?

@becca I'm no good for recommendations of classic books, but if you like gorgeously written books about complex characters, I recommend Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry. It's a western, but don't let that dissuade you. In my opinion, it's one of the best American books ever written.

    thank you!
