I adore The Hate U Give, I would recommend it to everyone and I also think it is a must read, because it talks about an important topic. For once I wasn’t even annoyed by the romance. It has been a while since I wanted to continue reading this much, before I knew it, I was done. It had me laugh out loud and made me cry.

One of my favorite books of 2017! So good! Angry, heartfelt, with a lot of amazing characters and with focus on really important issues! You have to read it. I loved the way families are portrayed in this book, and how integral they are to the storyline and each other, which we never get to see in YA. I also really enjoy the great balance between this book being very dark, about the very serious subject matter of police brutality and racism in America, to the small, happy little things about life that often go neglected in books covering such heavy topics. While I, of course, have some issues with it, I can't help but praise this book to people who want to learn more about the life of a black person in the ghetto, or a black person in a white-majority school, or just a black person in general. Most of this I found to be incredibly relatable, and I'm only a Hispanic that was partially raised in the ghetto.
