Absolutely incredible. Did take me a little bit to properly get into it, but once I was, I was hooked. It was a brilliant introduction to many of the race issues going on in America, much of which I was partly, if not entirely, clueless about. It was honest and beautiful, and heartbreaking and inspiring. It has made me, and I know many others, want to learn more about the issues and drive towards impactful change and progress.

Obviously, the main focus is the shooting of Starr's friend, Khalil, and the repercussions of it. It handled the topic excellently and examined the situation in ways that I'd never considered. But the other area that I loved was the cultural side. Seeing how close Starr was to her family, friends, and neighbours. It was wonderful to see such loving relationships, but never sugar-coated. She showed the dark side, yes, but also the light that shines through.

I plan to read this one many times
