I adored Madeline Miller's first book The Song of Achille and loved Circe just as much. Miller has the way of bringing Mythological characters to life. This novel focuses on the life of Circe, witch, goddess and daughter of sun god, Helios. Like most people, I had only come across Circe from The Odyssey, the witch who turned Odysseus' men into pigs. I am so glad Miller decided to write her story. I was amazing to learn more about her and trace her connection to other famous character such as Jason and Medea. Like always, the writing style is beautiful and totally immersive. I have been in a bit of a reading funk but I flew threw this novel. Highly highly recommend. Cannot wait to see what Miller does next.

Reads like a long Greek myth. If you’re into Greek mythology, I think you’d appreciate this story. The main character Circe describes the gods as selfish and cruel and has a soft side for some of mankind. An entertaining read that covers a lot of themes, but centers around a woman coming into her own sense of power and self reliance
